Dr. Cheng graduated from dental school at University of Pennsylvania in 2001 and completed a post graduate residency at UC San Francisco. At Upenn he excelled in clinic and was one of two in his class to be accepted into clinical honors program where he provided care at Penn's Medically Compromised Clinic. He worked closely with renown oral medicine director Dr. Michael Glick. At UCSF he focused his time in hospital dentistry and was awarded a certificate of outstanding resident from UCSF Surgery Center at Parnassus.
After residency he was an associate at a cosmetic dental office for 3 years in San Francisco and also worked as a pediatric dentist for Contra Costa County Health Clinics. Prior to studying at Dental School, he attended Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo where he studied Biology. Since he began practicing dentistry, Dr. Cheng has kept up to date on many post graduate courses ensuring that his patients receive the most comprehensive and advanced dental care possible. Some of these courses include a two year study of Aesthetic Dentistry and Occlusion at F.A.C.E Institute and over 400 hours on implant surgeries and prosthetics. With 19 years of dental experience he has made dentistry his passion and continues to learn and incorporate the best proven techniques, materials, and technology.
Why Dentistry? He was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil where poor oral hygiene habits prompted many visits to the dental office. His father also had unfortunate tooth aches and unwanted visits to the emergency room. Fortunately they were able to find quality dental care. This experience planted the seed for wanting to help people improve their quality of life through dentistry. You can say dentistry runs in the family as his wife and sister in law are also dentists.
Dr. Cheng and his wife have a daughter and family dog. They enjoy surfing, soccer, hiking, and cooking with friends and family. They love living and being active in the community. Dr. Cheng has volunteered many years to Monterey County Veterans Stand Down event delivering needed dental care to homeless veterans. His office has also organized free dental care to local under served children. Currently the office is partnering with a local non-profit organization Dentistry4Vets (2020) and will be taking care of Veterans oral health care needs. In addition the office has continued to donate to many local fundraisers across the county and is blessed to be able to be part of the community.
